The mission of the YES! Program at the North River Church of Christ is be a bridge from our church to our neighborhood. We pray to be an outpouring of the love and grace of Christ by serving our immediate neighborhood through a STEAM-based Saturday enrichment program offered seasonally to K-8 students as well as gifting them with school supplies each July. The Saturday program exists to foster learning excellence, self-esteem, and teamwork; our curriculum is designed and executed accordingly. We also partner with the Marietta City Schools social workers to provide community families with food and clothing from various drives throughout the calendar year.
Although summer is just beginning, the YES! Program is already gearing up for back to school! Every year, our congregation helps our K-5 neighbors go back to school with all their supplies. Now thru July 21st, we invite you to leave any donations you’d like to contribute in the donation closet of the Auditorium foyer. Some helpful items to bring are #2 pencils, cap erasers, large pink erasers, wide ruled paper, glue sticks, safety scissors, highlighters, colored pencils, composition notebooks, markers, crayons, etc. Find a full list of supplies for Sawyer Road Elementary at the following website: https://www.marietta-city.org/Page/655
God really smiled on our annual neighborhood outreach event, SERVAPALOOSA!, with over 100 estimated volunteers engaged in community service. North River volunteers shared so much of God’s light all across Marietta this past Saturday! Over 15 North River families and small groups participated in the “2nd Wind” Meal Sponsorship by collecting and delivering meals to food- insecure Marietta City families. These meals helped families recover the meals their children would have received at school but missed due to a break from classes. The North River YES! Program facilitates this service to families served by the Marietta City Schools social work division for the spring and winter school breaks. 60 volunteers hit the streets surrounding our North River campus to connect with neighbors and pick up trash for our “2nd to None” and “2nd Mile” projects. Single brothers and sisters, married couples, tiny tots, teens and even a dog came with hearts wide open and ready to give. We’d like to give our warmest thanks to everyone who donated, delivered, made phone calls, translated, picked up trash, knocked on doors, and prayed for this time- your efforts were invaluable.
We are eager to see God do even greater things through us at SERVAPALOOSA! 2020- please plan to serve with us again or for the first time next year. To God be the glory!
Join the North River Church of Christ’s YES! Program for a day of service in our very own neighborhood! Come one, come all: small groups, communities, families, friends, co-workers, etc. This year, we have three ways to make a meaningful impact on our neighbors.
2nd Wind (Family Meal Sponsorship)- team up with a group and decide to sponsor a family. You will provide some meals/food staples to support this family during Spring Break. You can give non-perishables or perishables. Maybe you make a lasagna and freeze it for this family to enjoy later? You can also decide to put everything in colorful boxes and personalize them with cards, activities and games for the kids. Let us know if you can support a family with 2, 3, 4 or 5+ kids. By March 20th, YES! will provide you with specific details (e.g. address, contact info) for the family we’ve matched you with. You’ll decide whether your entire team or just representatives will deliver these goods to your family on March 30th between 10am and 2pm. Those on this team will not report to the FLC on the 30th, instead you’re taking SERVAPALOOSA to the ends of the earth…mostly just Marietta.
2nd to None- your team will serve as the face of North River to our superfantabulous neighbors. If you have cute kids or an adorable roommate, this would be perfect for you! You will knock on doors of the streets surrounding our building. Ask neighbors if they have prayer requests, needs and if they know what we’re doing in the community (e.g. Sunday services, our STEAM-based Saturday enrichment program for K-5 students). There’s a huge need here for Spanish speakers.
2nd Mile- its humbling to pick up trash other people have left behind. This team demonstrates to our neighbors our willingness to gets our hands dirty in efforts to unify with them. You will travel in small groups around the neighborhood collecting trash and maybe rescuing a shopping cart or two.
SERVAPALOOSA is going down on March 30th fro 12pm-2pm. 2nd to None and 2nd Mile will meet at the FLC at 11:30 am to begin promptly at noon.

Wanting to serve more in 2019? Studies show that people drop New Year’s Resolutions in February. No sweat… YES! has solved this with opportunities for you/your family/your family group to serve beginning in March! Please especially save Saturday, March 30th from 12 pm- 2pm for SERVAPALOOSA. We’ll greet neighbors near our building, do a neighborhood clean up and deliver meals to Marietta families for the kids’ Spring Break from school. We’re praying to more dynamically impact our community for Christ, please join!
Since 2015, the North River Church of Christ’s YES! Program has been teaming up with Marietta City Schools to provide meals for food insecure families for the long breaks from school. When some of these children receive 2 of their main meals from school at no cost, school holidays bring significant changes for their family.
Please consider joining forces with friends or family, office or club, or perhaps your family group. Your team (feel free to give yourselves an epic name) will shop for breakfast and lunch food items to support a family for the two weeks of school they have off. Non-perishables like oatmeal, cereal, pasta, soups, etc. can be great. Since your team will be delivering the food you may also opt to include some perishable options, frozen goods, or home-cooked meals. Deliveries are scheduled to be made Dec. 15th between 10 am and 2 pm. You will receive information about the family you’re serving- their address, how many children they have, any special dietary needs, etc. by December 8th. Until then, feel free to imagine your family has 3 kids- it’s never too early to start pulling things together. Also, if you’d like to include small trinkets like coloring books or fun activities…the sky is the limit. Your team should make this their own unique expression of giving!
