YES! (Youth Empowerment Services)

The mission of the YES! Program at the North River Church of Christ is be a bridge from our church to our neighborhood. We pray to be an outpouring of the love and grace of Christ by serving our immediate neighborhood through a STEAM-based Saturday enrichment program offered seasonally to K-8 students as well as gifting them with school supplies annually at BACKpack 2 SCHOOL. The Saturday program exists to foster learning excellence, self-esteem, and teamwork; our curriculum is designed and executed accordingly. We also partner with the Marietta City Schools’ social workers to provide families with meals to supplement those lost on account of breaks from school. Please reach us at: northriveryes@gmail.com

YES! Saturdays- Full STEAM Ahead

One tenet of the mission of our STEAM-based enrichment program is to promote learning excellence and that’s exactly how we spent our September Saturdays. Whether it was having our participants sip “nectar” in the honey making process, tackle math problems on YES! tablets, experiment with weather measurement tools, launch water bottle rockets or experience physics through aerial acrobatics, we complimented the STEAM concepts they’re learning in their Monday-Friday MCS classrooms. More learning adventures are in store for October! North River members, if you’re interested in lending a hand or providing a healthy snack, please reach us at northriveryes@gmail.com

Want to donate to BACKpack 2 SCHOOL?

Although summer is just beginning, the YES! Program is already gearing up for back to school! Every year, our congregation helps our K-5 neighbors go back to school with all their supplies. Now thru July 21st, we invite you to leave any donations you’d like to contribute in the donation closet of the Auditorium foyer. Some helpful items to bring are #2 pencils, cap erasers, large pink erasers, wide ruled paper, glue sticks, safety scissors, highlighters, colored pencils, composition notebooks, markers, crayons, etc. Find a full list of supplies for Sawyer Road Elementary at the following website: https://www.marietta-city.org/Page/655

Another Fantastic Season of YES! Saturdays- Spring 2019

This Spring, we began our middle school program. They served as leaders for the younger participants and explored subjects they were interested in. Wendy Oshi came to teach them about photography and made they got to pose a bit, too.

Mission Impossible!, our creative problem-solving class, is always full of surprises. We created left-ventricles, tested structures we built on an earthquake simulator and met some little (or big) crawlers.

Thank you, SERVAPALOOSA! Servants

God really smiled on our annual neighborhood outreach event, SERVAPALOOSA!, with over 100 estimated volunteers engaged in community service. North River volunteers shared so much of God’s light all across Marietta this past Saturday! Over 15 North River families and small groups participated in the “2nd Wind” Meal Sponsorship by collecting and delivering meals to food- insecure Marietta City families. These meals helped families recover the meals their children would have received at school but missed due to a break from classes. The North River YES! Program facilitates this service to families served by the Marietta City Schools social work division for the spring and winter school breaks. 60 volunteers hit the streets surrounding our North River campus to connect with neighbors and pick up trash for our “2nd to None” and “2nd Mile” projects. Single brothers and sisters, married couples, tiny tots, teens and even a dog came with hearts wide open and ready to give. We’d like to give our warmest thanks to everyone who donated, delivered, made phone calls, translated, picked up trash, knocked on doors, and prayed for this time- your efforts were invaluable.

We are eager to see God do even greater things through us at SERVAPALOOSA! 2020- please plan to serve with us again or for the first time next year. To God be the glory!

Generous North River families spent their Saturday delivering meals to others in the community through our 2nd Wind initiative.
