Dear Brothers, Sisters, and Friends,
The North River elders are continually trying to respond to the various needs of the congregation as best as possible. One of the congregational requests has been to provide help to those struggling with chemical and alcohol addiction. A core group has been formed to help the elders address this need.
We are excited to announce that North River Church is launching a Chemical and Alcohol Recovery Ministry! There are many brothers, sisters, friends, and family who live daily with this debilitating illness, and we are here to say there is help on the way. There are members in our fellowship who are in long-term recovery, and desire to help others as they have been helped. There is hope for the sick and suffering and there are many in our midst who understand this exhausting spiritual battle.
In any given audience, studies suggest that one out of ten struggle with this genetic difference. You are not alone, and more of us than you know have walked the path that you might find yourself on. In addition, considering also the anxiety inherent in our culture today, self-medicating is also in the forefront of heightening chemical and alcohol addiction.
On Sunday, November 10 th at 12:00 in the Family Learning Center, we will be hosting a meeting for all those who are interested in learning more about this new ministry. This meeting is for everyone who wants to learn more. Whether you are wondering if you have a problem with drugs, prescription meds or alcohol, or if you have a friend or family member you’re concerned about, please join us. Or you might want to learn more about this issue so that you can have a better understanding of someone you are reaching out to who might be struggling in this area.
We are fully aware that this illness has a stigma associated with it, and we want you to feel comfortable attending this informational gathering. As you look around the room, no one will know why you happen to be there. Whether you are there for yourself or someone else, this will be an inspiring time for us to pull together as a family and continue meeting the needs of our wonderful fellowship.
Jesus said, “When I was hungry, you gave me something to eat. When I was thirsty, you gave me something to drink. When I was a stranger, you invited me in. When I was naked, you clothed me. When I was sick, you looked after me. And when I was in prison, you came to visit with me.” Those who are familiar with addiction have felt all of these things at one time or another, and as Jesus said, the way we treat those who are struggling is how we treat Him.
