YES! (Youth Empowerment Services) is a multi-tiered initiative to bolster love and godly confidence in our neighborhood through a STEAM-based Saturday program, providing school supplies, serving our neighborhood MUST pantry, and partnering with Marietta City Schools social workers for Family Meal Sharing for winter and spring breaks.
The 2023 season kicked off in March as we prepared for Family Meal Sharing on April 1st. North River teams supported over 20 families with supplemental meals for the kids' spring break from Marietta City Schools. This continues to be a tremendous encouragement.
In May, we wrapped up our first season of YES! Saturdays back in-person since the pandemic. Participants engaged in weekly STEAM-based activities and sports in the Lighthouse Gym (thank you, Matt Tchir and the Sports Ministry). We concluded the season with a STEM tour of the Mercedes-Benz stadium. The kids were able to visit the locker rooms of some of their favorite Falcons and Atlanta United players!
God used our amazing volunteers to provide the kids with an outstanding spring program: Ebun, Garth & Ive, Christine, Robinson, Joe & Vanessa, Katey, and Matt. Thank you for bringing your whole hearts to serving the kids and making an amazing experience for them this spring. They will always remember God's love through you!
In July, River Kids hosted us again to distribute backpacks and school supplies at the Back 2 School Bash. Most of the supplies, however, we're given at the August pantry night at Marietta Sixth Grade academy- over 250 pounds of supplies!
Over 60 North River YES! volunteers supported the MUST neighborhood pantry in May, August, and December serving over 350 families. This is a family-friendly event where volunteers pack neighbors cars with food and supplies as they drive by or walk up at Marietta Sixth Grade Academy.
Our final Family Meal Sharing of the year was on December 9th and North River Teams helped 50 families with supplemental meals for the holiday break. Some families were taken care of by the generous Angel Tree Donations collected by our HOPEww chapter. Special thanks to Kevin and Noelle Broyles and the HOPEww chapter for cultivating such a warm service partnership.
YES! could not operate without the support of the NR's leadership, HOPEww chapter, Sports Ministry, Children's Ministry, and hundreds of volunteers and donors. Thank you, family! We are also indebted to our community partners from the MUST Neighborhood Pantry and the Marietta City Schools social workers for being so wonderful.
We look forward to greater service for His glory in 2024!
